Thoughts about hr and management in the real world – extra information I couldn't fit in my books!.
I realised the other day that it’s been 5 years since Employment Bites came out. What have been doing since then? I have been writing, yet no books have been produced. This really isn’t good enough. It’s time that I stopped procrastinating and got things finished.
So it looks like 2015 is going to be my year of books!!
What are they? Here’s a run down.
The HR Game Changer book
This November I’m participating in NanoWrimo (national novel writing month). Over 300,000 people around the world sign up to write 1,667 words a day to end up at the end of November with a book of 50,000 words. This is my fourth year doing NanoWrimo. I’ve ‘won’ two of them and I hope this will my third. The HR Game Changer book is unlike anything else I’ve written. It’s about the learnings and discussions that came from the conference that we (Elephant) ran in September. It will also capture discussions and articles happening around the world and then what I think we need to do with it. My planned date for release is March 2015.
On top of writing the HR Game Changer, I’m also busy editing Training Bites – my next bites book. This is tapping into my 12 years in L&D. It’s about how to do every aspect of training and development – how adults learn, how to do TNA, write an L&D strategy, design workshops, e-learning, webinars or conferences and there’s even techniques on how to present, facilitate or train. I’m almost through the edit so hoping that this can be released in February 2015.
I wrote most of this last year during NanoWrimo. It’s a practical guide on how to run an SME. I think it’s going to have to wait until the other two are finished so this one may come out in late 2015.
This time it’s Personnel: a book of blogs
I said at the start that I haven’t produced any books in 5 years – but that’s not entirely true. Released this week is the sequel to ‘Humane Resourced’ a book of blogs compiled by David D’Souza which rode up the Amazon bestseller lists when it came out. The sequel is called ‘This time it’s Personnel’ and there are 70 bloggers who have contributed (including yours truly). All proceeds go to charity, so do go and check it out. It’s a bargain to purchase and I promise there are some brilliant contributions to challenge your thinking. Check it out by clicking here.
Lastly, and what I’m really excited about – is my first novel. I’m far more nervous about releasing this on the world than any of my business books (see I’m even nervous about saying what the title is….). But writing has been my calling since I was young. I wrote my first novel when I was 14 years old. It was 1,000 pages long and it wasn’t pretty (it involved my school friends and a popular boy band – don’t ask). Since then I’ve written many short stories, novellas and a few practice novels. I’m hoping that having done my 10,000 hours (read Malcolm Gladwell for more about that) I’ve honed my art and that my novel is ready for the world. Or the world is ready for it.
Planned date for release? May 2015. Eeek!
So there it is. In black and white. Now I just have to get writing!!
